About us What we do Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Charity Royal Papworth Hospital Charity exists to support the ground-breaking work of Royal Papworth Hospital. With increasing pressures on NHS resources, the charity plays a vital role in ensuring the Hospital continues to provide the highest standards of care, whilst also ensuring the development of new ways of treating heart and lung disease. Heart and lung diseases remain two of the biggest killers in the UK and it is estimated that 3.5 million men and 3.5 million women in the UK are currently living with cardiovascular disease. Pioneering medicine and innovative surgical advances at Royal Papworth Hospital have not only transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients but also helped shape cardiothoracic medicine internationally. This has been made possible through the generous funding provided by Royal Papworth Hospital Charity. Our Objectives and Activities By raising new money and management of existing funds, Royal Papworth Hospital Charity is able tomake grants to Royal Papworth Hospital to benefit patients and staff specifically to: Improve the Hospital environment Provide both state-of-the art and additional equipment Support and develop hospital staff We do this by raising valuable funds through a variety of ways including: Holding charitable events Supporting community fundraising activities Running fundraising campaigns for specific projects Encouraging grateful patient giving Promoting legacies and in memory giving Effectively managing the Charity funds and investing wisely Your support can really make a difference, not just for Royal Papworth Hospital, but for cardiothoracic patients around the world. Performing the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, and the world’s first heart-lung-liver transplant in 1986, Royal Papworth Hospital is responsible for a great number of medical ‘firsts’ and with the financial support and investment provided by the Hospital’s Charity, we hope to be responsible for many more.
