Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I’m raising money for Royal Papworth Hospital's DCD programme. Pioneered by consultants at RPH, DCD non-beating heart transplants have increased the number of available hearts by about 1/3. Prior to this being a viable option, only hearts from donors who were previously declared brain dead were used. Following successful research, it is now possible to use hearts from donors who's hearts and lungs have stopped working. By restarting the heart and using TransMedics Organ Care System, the donor heart is kept warm, supplied with oxygenated blood, vital nutrients and suffers less tissue damage than the more traditional ischemic transplants. Some of the time constraints associated with traditional heart transplants are also removed thus allowing donor hearts to be transported greater distances and allowing operations to be more planned.

Each OCS (TM) HEART 'module' is a single use unit which holds the heart and provides the support it needs during transportation until it is ready for implantation. Each OCS (TM) costs around £31,000 and the NHS do not fund this part of the operation. Royal Papworth Hospital Charity has funded this vital research and each of the 50+ transplants carried out by RPH to date. They are also committed to funding the next 50. For many on the transplant waiting list, no suitable heart can be found. It is my hope that, with your help and sponsorship, I can raise funds towards an OCS (TM) HEART to shorten the list for one more person who is desperately needs this life saving operation.

That is why I have decided to join the NHS London to Paris Cycle in September 2019. The route goes from Crystal Palace to Calais (via Dover), Abberville, Beauvais and Paris, finishing under the Eiffel Tower. Covering 300 miles in 4 days is a formidable challenge for me as is my £2,000 target. I will be spending the next 30 weeks in training, at home and on the road. I hope to train and fundraise in some of the shops where I live in Stamford so please say Hello if you see me.

Please support me in my fundraising by donating via this website. It is easy, quick and secure.

Also, why not share with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter – and elsewhere – so I can reach my target and together we can help Royal Papworth Hospital save one more life. Thank you!
