For My Dad On 16th September this year, one of Royal Papworth Charity’s incredible fundraisers decided to take on a challenge – running a 5km coastal run to raise money for Royal Papworth Charity in memory o her Dad to say thanks to Royal Papworth for looking after her brother. Victoria shares why she decided to take on this challenge and raise money for Royal Papworth Charity; ‘I am not much of a runner and I wanted to challenge myself as well as raising money for a Charity that supports a cause that was really important to me” In 2011, Victoria’s brother was taken very ill with a virus that attacked his heart. He was admitted to Royal Papworth Hospital for several months and was placed on the heart transplant list. Throughout his time as a patient at Royal Papworth, Victoria’s father was always complementing every member of staff, from the porters, to the kitchen and catering staff to the nurses, doctors and extensive clinical team. “My father never had a bad word to say about Royal Papworth Hospital. They took great care of my brother the entire time her was a patient – without them he would be here today. Thankfully, my brother recovered enough not to need a transplant! Unfortunately, 3 years ago, Victoria’s Dad passed away. “After my Dad passed away, I wanted to share and fundraise in honour of him. He was forever grateful to Royal Papworth Hospital and all of the members of staff, but he unfortunately never got the chance to give back, which I know he desperately wanted to do! He was so grateful for all of their hardwork, support and care!" “My friends and family would call me crazy and a bit of the joker of the group!! I am a bit mad and don’t take life too seriously. Life is for living and enjoying every second you have. So when I started to consider fundraising for Royal Papworth Charity in honour of my Dad, I was fully supported.” "If you are thinking about supporting Royal Papworth Charity by fundraising, the best piece of advice I would say is..just do it! Honestly I was a bit apprehensive at first, but it was something I really wanted to complete for my Dad. There are so many things you can get involved in. Bag packing, runs, cake sales, car washes- just make that step and you will enjoy it!" “Also the best invention ever...social media. It was a great way to reach more people, and it was really useful when sharing and raising more money.” Thanks to incredible fundraisers such as Victoria, Royal Papworth Charity can continue to support all of our patients, improve their care, treatment and facilities needed. We really appreciate all the support and hardwork our fundraisers do!
