Royal Papworth Charity are launching their largest ever capital appeal, aiming to raise £2.6 million over the next two years to support with the build of the Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The HLRI will bring together the highest concentration of heart and lung researchers from academia, healthcare and industry in Europe, meaning new treatments and trials for our patients.

Heart and lung disease remain two of the biggest killers in the UK and it is estimated that 7 million men and women in the UK are currently living with cardiovascular disease. The HLRI will look to help those people as it will be home to over 380 scientists and state-of-the-art laboratories in genomics, population sciences, research into cellular mechanisms of disease and translational science. It will also include a special ten bed facility where the first-in-patient studies of new treatments can be conducted.

In the past pioneering medicine and innovative surgical advances supported by Royal Papworth Charity have not only transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients but also helped shape cardiothoracic medicine internationally. Together we will build on that legacy and provide a facility which will transform the way cardiovascular disease is treated forever.

Royal Papworth Charity is proud to support  the HLRI which will contribute to the successful treatment of heart and lung disease worldwide and offer transformational opportunities to future Royal Papworth patients.
