News Wanstead Golf Club Raises Thousands of Pounds for Papworth Papworth Hospital Charity was selected by Captain Matt Smith as his charity of the year in recognition of the care given to his Father during his transplant at Papworth Hospital. Its traditional at most golf clubs for the Captain to select a charity to support in his year of Captaincy, this is no different at Wanstead Golf Club. I selected Papworth Hospital Charity after my father received wonderful care during his transplant at Papworth Hospital in the late 90s. We had several specific events to raise money for the Captain’s Charity, notably the Dave Hollick Captain’s Charity Cup, Captain’s Day and the Captain’s Drive-In. The profits from these days go towards the contribution to the charity, as well as raffles held on the days. We also have a Captain’s Charity hole, the 16th at Wanstead over a lake. Anyone not making the carrying and ending up in the lake is expected to put a pound in the Captain’s Charity pot. Papworth Hospital Charity were delighted to receive a cheque for £4,500 which was so generously raised by members of the golf club throughout Matt's year of Captaincy. These funds will go a long way to support patient care at Papworth Hospital.
