The Papworth Hospital Charity would like to offer its grateful thanks to Brigadier John and Mrs Patricia Rigby for their recent gift which has enabled the Hospital to purchase two complete Electrolarynx kits. The generous gift was given as a result of the excellent care that both Mrs Rigby and her husband have received from the Hospital. The couple wanted to help Papworth in a way that would be meaningful to them and to the patients.

Mrs Rigby explained:

My husband and I wanted to support the hospital in an area where our gift would make a difference for the patients. This was our way of thanking the hospital, our Consultant Surgeon Mr Choo Ng and all the medical staff that took such great good care of us.

The Electrolarynx gives voice to tracheostomy patients who, without a means to communicate, get understandably frustrated. This equipment enables them to participate in decision-making about their healthcare as well as communicate with their family and friends.

Pippa Hales, Speech and Language Therapy Lead, said:

I am extremely thankful to the Rigbys for their generosity as I know the difference it will make for our patients and for the medical personnel working with them.

Thanks to the support of the Rigbys and that of other grateful patients, Papworth Hospital is able to purchase specialized equipment, offer innovative patient programmes and fund cutting-edge research that have a direct impact on the care and recovery of its patients.
