About us Patient stories Susan Butler Susan was diagnosed with hypertropic cardiomyopathy at age thirty-eight and suffered from ten years of sickness; the last five of which were a real struggle. She resorted to using a wheelchair and was unable to do anything independently. In 2012 after many years of illness, Susan's life was saved with a heart transplant. With thanks to the expertise of the Transplant Team at Royal Papworth Hospital, Susan has her life back. Shortly after her transplant, Susan celebrated her 50th birthday and hasn't looked back since. Susan explains: With thanks to my wonderful donor and their brave family, I am alive today and enjoying life to the full. My life wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for the amazing team at Papworth. They change lives everyday and give patients like me a future. Without them, I simply wouldn't be alive.
