Royal Papworth Hospital to Lead the Way with Cardiology Services

In 2018, Royal Papworth Hospital will move to a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Royal Papworth Hospital Charity will play a vital role in equipping the new Papworth Hospital (NPH). One of the most significant areas of interest for the charity is within the suite of Catheterisation Labs. Plans for the NPH include a Hybrid Theatre Lab (HTL) which will be one only a few in the country.

A Hybrid Cath Lab (HTL) is a surgical theatre that is equipped with advanced medical imaging devices which enables minimally-invasive surgery. HTLs can be used for emergency treatment for both cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.

The highest level of care for patients

The system provides highly accurate images of the heart from two different perspectives. This provides better spatial resolution to guide complex vascular and structural heart interventions, whilst also exposing the patient and staff to lower radiation levels and reducing contrast dose, improving procedural safety.

The HTL has the capacity to reduce theatre waiting times due to the dual-purpose of the facility, which in turn will enable Royal Papworth Hospital to treat more patients.

The HTL will be entirely funded by the charity and will be branded as the Royal Papworth Hospital Charity Hybrid Cath Lab.

All funds raised through the Cardiac Catheter appeal will be allocated to the New Papworth Fund- P8557, if funds raised through this appeal exceed the fundraising target funds will remain allocated to this charitable fund and will instead fund other pieces of equipment.
