Nicola's climbing challenge
Nicola Morris was part of a group of eight plus two support crew members who attempted the Three Peaks Challenge in June 2010. They started at the base of Ben Nevis at 5pm on a Saturday evening completing the climb by 10pm, then journeyed through the night to the base of Scafell Pike at Wastwater in the Lake District.
At 4am as the sun rose, they set off on their second climb up Scafell Pike and were back down again by 8am! Busy traffic and a 60mph limiter on the bus slowed their journey into North Wales, and they reached Snowdon behind schedule.
Nicola said “with very little sleep and having climbed 2,238m already, the team were very tired upon reaching Pen-y-pass at the base of the Snowdon PYG trail. However, we were so close to completion of the challenge that our spirits were high, and the beauty of the Snowdonia landscape blew us away.
We arrived at the base of Snowdon at 7pm, two hours behind schedule, having walked approximately 22.5miles and climbed 2,052.5 vertical metres in just 26 hours! We were lucky and had the most fantastic weather throughout the challenge with perfect views from every mountain."
Challenge
"Each member of the team did the challenge for their own reasons. Mine was to raise money for Papworth Hospital in memory
of a very good friend Edwin Nicholls, to whom we owe so many happy memories”.
Thank you to Nicola and her team for all their hard work and completing such a tough challenge. Congratulations to Nicola for raising a fantastic £432.79 which will be split equally between the Cystic Fibrosis Fund and the Transplant Fund.
