Snowden summit success

John Nichols celebrated his 71st Birthday in style by completing a fund raising climb of Mount Snowdon in aid of Papworth Hospital Charity. Two years ago he spent eight days in Papworth Hospital having a triple heart by-pass operation. After recovering from his operation he was determined to show his gratitude by helping the hospital that saved his life.

View from SnowdenJoined by his son David, son in law Gareth Simpson and eight year old grandson William Simpson, John set out to reach the summit of Snowden (1085m) on their sponsored hike.

“I cannot speak highly enough of the care, treatment and professionalism of all the staff. It is an incredible place and now that I am fully recovered I feel that I would like to do something to help.”

Poor weather nearly thwarted the attempt to complete the trek, but undeterred all four made it to the top.

“It was a lot touSummit successgher in places than I had remembered from the school trip, including getting back down! However I was spurred on particularly by the achievement of Will. He did really well and was rewarded, by his Cub Scout group, with the award of his trekking badge."

Mr Nichols and his three fellow climbers have so far raised £1,265 for Papworth Hospital Charity. Congratulations to them all for their incredible achievement.
