Payroll giving

Payroll giving (also known as Give As You Earn or GAYE) is also a regular way of giving us your support and it’s also very tax effective.

How payroll giving works

Each time you are paid, a donation is deducted by your Payroll Department before tax is calculated. For instance, if you are a basic rate tax payer:

  • You pledge £10
  • You pay only £7.80
  • The taxman will add £2.20 - at no extra cost to you!

And, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, then it will cost you even less to donate £10 as tax is deducted at the higher rate.

In addition, some employers offer 'matched giving' schemes where they will match your gift at no extra cost to you. This means even more money for Papworth Hospital Charity to continue its work.

How do I sign up for payroll giving?

Check with your payroll department that your company offers the Payroll Giving Scheme; then decide how much you would like to give each payday. Remember that the amount you pledge includes the part the taxman will pay!

If your company does not currently offer Payroll Giving, we can provide you with advice about setting up the scheme - just contact us.
