Legacy Funds In Action
Through your generosity, the hospital now has four brand new TOEs.
These hi-tech machines have been bought through funds left to the hospital by people who remembered us in their will. Costing a total of £360,000, two are being used in Theatres, one is in our Cardiac department and the other is a portable machine for the Transplant Unit.
'Trans-oesophageal Echocardiography'
(TOE) is a test that uses sound waves to create high-quality moving pictures of the heart and its blood vessels. These images provide detailed information about the size and shape of the heart and how well the chambers and valves are working.
TOE is routinely used in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients with suspected or known heart disease. The latest machines employ 3D real time imaging, meaning that Papworth has the very latest technology available.
